Remember me
Reception have re-organised their mornings and we now start with a ‘hands on’ session. When we first come into the classroom we can choose from a variety of activities, including using our lovely new water tray, play-dough and painting easel. These activities are helping to build up our fine motor skills, as well as being really good fun!
Fun didn’t stop in the pre-prep when the snow arrived in abundance last week! We got all wrapped up and headed off to explore the grounds to see what our other school friends had produced. We were amazed at the size of the snow forts that the main school children had made and were very excited to see Year 3 making snowmen up on the field behind the swimming pool!
Terra Nova. Yarlet Under 11 A-team proved far too strong for the visitors from Jodrell Bank. With just one game being played, we were able to involve some boys from the B-team, and they fitted-in well and showed that we have strength in depth. Yarlet played with width and pace, and ran out 11-1 winners. Goals were scored by Joe Berks (5), Gabriel Korylco-Bowers (2), William Thowless-Reeves (2), Angus Munro (1) and Harrison Hardy-Smith (1) On November 2nd we welcomed The Ryleys to fortress A34. The mood was confident after we beat them easily in the Shrewsbury 6s and we fielded a Year 5 team and Year 6 team for a change. The Year 5s found it tough going, but were not disgraced in their 5-2 defeat, with goals coming from William Thowless-Reeves and Gabriel Korylco-Bowers. The Year 6 team were easy winners 8-1, with goals from Joe Berks (3), Angus Munro (2), Harvey Hancock (1), Jasper Mitchell (1) and one own goal. Next on the calendar was a trip to old rivals Birchfield. The crowd roared as Yarlet powered to a 5-2 victory and a well-earned sausage and chips meal. The Yarlet strike force was...
The Under 13s final match of the season was played on a muddy grass pitch of epic proportions. Yarlet began with determination, but it soon become clear that Abbotsholme were desperate for a victory, too, and were clearly used to playing on grass. Their play was aggressive and they made some excellent tackles and, despite brave defending from Kathy Johns and Lollie’s saves, they managed to score. The girls were not disheartened for long and a great tackle by Emma led to a short corner, powerfully converted into a goal by Maria. After the break, the girls made better use of space on the huge pitch. Emma and Hetta tackled fearlessly, making successful runs up the wing to the goal where Beth was positioned to shoot but just could not find the target. Abbotsholme continually threatened to score and, after some huge clearances and skilful saves, they finally broke through to score again. In the final third, LouLou came on to add some extra energy to the team and made a great impact. The girls really fought hard and, determined not to concede another goal, Hetta threw herself in...
Under 13 Rounders v Lichfield - Match Report
Yarlet were first into bat and we were playing a timed game of rounders – 15 minutes to score as many rounders as possible, instead of the usual 27 good balls. The girls played well, and Maria soon gained a reputation for being the player to watch. She scored 2 rounders with well placed hits down the hill and the Lichfield girls were getting rattled. Leona contributed another full rounder to our first innings total of 5 ½ rounders.
The girls worked hard in their first fielding innings and managed to get the whole of the Lichfield team out by the end of play. India was responsible for stumping out three girls on first, thanks to some excellent throws from Leona. There were some fielding errors in the innings, however, where the girls were a bit over enthusiastic with their throws from the deep, and Lichfield took full advantage to score six rounders in their first innings.
In the...
What is the best tonic a team can give their coach? A win, of course! It was difficult to resist the lure of a home match to watch and almost impossible to keep quiet. So, despite a sore throat and the flu, Mrs Millington ventured onto the edge of the court to enjoy a really good win. There was a lot to keep spectators interested, with the lightning passes from Jessica to Molly and on to the two shooters, Hattie and Leona, who aimed accurately and with great poise. Jamie and Abi were an excellent defensive team, Jamie soaring into the air to intercept almost all the high balls, and Abi never taking her eye off the ball to remain always in front of her opponent. The team made the most of being on home territory. I particularly enjoyed watching the clever bounce and chest passes from Jessica, the athletic runs into space by Hattie and the ever-alert Leona positioned right under the net. It was good to see wings, Sophie and India, getting into great positions for short passes, which...
