Yarlet pre-prep children had an exciting surprise when Sergeant Gareth Thomas and PC Jane Hargreaves arrived at the School with their police cars and two police dogs, Nex, the German speaking German shepherd (yes really!) and Alfie, the sniffer dog. The children questioned the officers from Staffordshire police on all sorts of things: including where the police dogs lived, how the dogs knew who the baddies were and how the handcuffs worked.  To the amusement of the children, Sergeant Thomas provided the evidence by demonstrating on the Kindergarten teacher, Ms Nicci Morgan.  Children and teachers were then invited to meet Alfie, the English springer spaniel, and investigate the two police cars. Yarlet's Headmaster, Ian Raybould, commented that ‘the children thoroughly enjoyed meeting all four members of Staffordshire Police’ and  ‘this visit from the police and a forthcoming visit from Staffordshire Fire Service, play an important part of educating our pupils on the important role these professions have in our community.’
