Terra Nova. Yarlet Under 11 A-team proved far too strong for the visitors from Jodrell Bank. With just one game being played, we were able to involve some boys from the B-team, and they fitted-in well and showed that we have strength in depth. Yarlet played with width and pace, and ran out 11-1 winners. Goals were scored by Joe Berks (5), Gabriel Korylco-Bowers (2), William Thowless-Reeves (2), Angus Munro (1) and Harrison Hardy-Smith (1)
On November 2nd we welcomed The Ryleys to fortress A34. The mood was confident after we beat them easily in the Shrewsbury 6s and we fielded a Year 5 team and Year 6 team for a change. The Year 5s found it tough going, but were not disgraced in their 5-2 defeat, with goals coming from William Thowless-Reeves and Gabriel Korylco-Bowers. The Year 6 team were easy winners 8-1, with goals from Joe Berks (3), Angus Munro (2), Harvey Hancock (1), Jasper Mitchell (1) and one own goal. Next on the calendar was a trip to old rivals Birchfield. The crowd roared as Yarlet powered to a 5-2 victory and a well-earned sausage and chips meal. The Yarlet strike force was on form again, with goals from Gabriel Korylco-Bowers (2) and one each for Angus Munro, Joe Berks and Harrison Hardy-Smith.
On the road again, this time to Prestfelde where the boys scored 3 goals without reply in the first half. However, football is a funny old game and, after allowing the home team to claw back 3 goals to salvage a draw, the Yarlet boys dug deep one last time and scored a winner. The final seconds were played with the Yarlet bus parked in front of the goal and a well-deserved 4-3 victory was the perfect way to get ready for a nice plate of chicken and noodles! The B Team played very well and kept the score at 0-0 well into the second half, thanks to excellent clearances from Henry “chopper” Walker. The final score of 5-0 to Prestfelde didn’t do justice to the Yarlet performance, and the boys can hold their heads high.
Our final game is against Foremarke during the last week of term. Let’s hope we finish the season in style. Many thanks to all the boys who have played so enthusiastically, and to the spectators who have turned out in force in all weathers to cheer on the boys!
