Yarlet Under 11s were in a competitive group which saw them play Terra Nova first. It was a tough start but one which the boys were to learn from quickly. We lost 3 - 0 but the match became the catalyst for improvement and progression from the team.
We approached the next game against Packwood Haugh differently and looked to play a closer, tighter formation which the boys did tremendously well. So well that we won the game 1 - 0 thanks to a goal by captain, Arran Cunliffe. It was a much more solid performance which served as foundation for the team's progress in the tournament. Incidentally, Packwood went on to lift the overall winner's trophy! Yarlet drew the next game against Hallfield 2-2, despite leading the game twice. The results placed us 3rd in the table with 4 points and qualified us for the Shield quarter-finals. Here we faced Elstree where we edged an entertaining encounter 3-2. Birchfield were our opponents in the semi-finals. The boys rallied to put in another impressive display and they thoroughly deserved their place in the final winning by one goal. To reach the final was a great achievement, particuarly given the tough start to the tournament. The boys had made great improvements throughout and played with true spirit which was all one could have asked of them. Unfortunately, we lost the final to a solitary strike. Yarlet played well and created good chances but, unfortunately, we didn't take them and it was, perhaps, one game too many. Well done to all who played and a big thank you to all who came and supported, it was very much appreciated. |
