Welcome to the Yarlet Academy of Performing Arts (YAPA) New and exclusive to Yarlet School, YAPA aims to deliver down to earth training that’s both stretching and fun. It provides Yarlet pupils with the opportunity to enjoy classes in dance, drama and singing with three specialist teachers. Senior classes run for two hours per week during term time; Junior classes for one and half hours a week. High Standards & VarietyThe high ratio of adults to pupils, including a non‐teaching Principal and a classroom assistant ensures that students experience high standards and excellent value for money in a professional and safe environment. Pupils are divided by year into three groups with each group rotating and visiting their three teachers during the weekly sessions, ensuring class numbers are small and students train with children in their own age group. All our coaches are professional performers and teachers, who deliver structured and varied classes where students experience thorough warm‐ups, choreographed routines, breath control, vocal projection, character development, stagecraft and much, much more! When? The classes take place between 3.40pm and 5.45pm for Seniors and between 3.45pm and 5.30pm for Juniors (who will have two appropriate breaks), and run parallel to Friday’s games and homework sessions, meaning no academic lessons are lost. Exploring talent and imagination! The Academy is not about trying to create ‘stars’ but rather giving those who have natural talent the chance to really develop their skills and those that want to explore their imagination and creativity the opportunity to express themselves, all on an equal footing – hard work and progress will always be rewarded first and foremost. Discounted Holiday Workshops Pupils are also able to take advantage of one free week‐long Summer Workshop per year at Yarlet plus a half price workshop at Easter, worth together up to £187.50! Those who commit to three terms at the Academy also only pay half price for the third term with siblings receiving a 20% discount on their termly or annual Academy fees. End of term presentations & LAMDA exams.... The Academy, once established, will be looking to provide a platform for pupils to take LAMDA exams (London Academy of Music and Art) which are highly established and offer a comprehensive system of performance evaluation by experts in education, acting and communication. The teachers at the Academy will be able to offer coaching on a group basis for these exams as part of the Academy fee and Yarlet School will be the venue for visiting examiners. End of term presentations will take the form of ‘class work in action’ (parents can see directly the training their children are receiving), demonstrations on particular themes, shows and pupils’ devised works. How to Join? This course is exclusive to Yarlet pupils who may join after completing an application form which is available in the school's reception. |
