Form 5 Trip to Cannock Chase Form 5 embarked on their first History trip of the new term with a visit to Coal Mines at Cannock Chase Museum. They experienced the first-hand tales of a real miner, including tales of pit-ponies and rats eating one’s snap! We were also given the chance to try on authentic mining gear and feel the weight that miners had to carry. There were also hands on experiences of life as a miner’s wife and the drama of a mine collapse!
Form 8 Trip to Ironbridge On 14th November Form 8 visited the historic Ironbridge Gorge to complete part of their Geography fieldwork project. The day begin with a tour of Blists Hill, a living Victorian Town, where pupils learnt about the methods of Victorian technology and sampled food from the time as well as surveying the day’s visitors. We then moved on to a second museum, Enginuity, where pupils got involved in cutting-edge science as well as competing in a Cantilever challenge. An enjoyable day all round that kicked-off their projects to great effect.
Form 7 Trip to Tatton Park Having studied the Peasants Revolt of 1381 before the summer break, Form 7 pupils had the opportunity to investigate the life of a medieval peasant with hands on experience of the jobs they had to do. Eventually invited in by the fearsome Master Johnson and a lady only referred to as ‘goodwife’, pupils were questioned by the fire until deemed able to work. What followed was a mix of spinning and weaving, flour-grinding, archery, and the making of wattle and daub walls. The day ended with a trial that embroiled several pupils, culminating in the conviction of Lauranne, Helena and Mr Lindop for poaching rabbits!
