YARLET V SHREWSBURY  HIGH SCHOOL U10S - WON 15½ - 8

A super first match!

Shrewsbury batted first but barely scored due to Emily's calm bowling and great fielding by Tyler at backstop and Kasey on second base.  Some great work in deep field by Lolly and Hetta and sensible stumping at third base by Libby led to a score of just 3 rounders for Shrewsbury.

Some excellent batting and plucky runs to second base gave Yarlet a great score of 8 after the first innings.  Amelia made some super runs the whole way round to score Yarlet half rounders as did Lolly.  There were some big hits by Libby and Fionnuala and sensible running by Helena and Tamzin.  Yarlet scored 7½.

Shrewsbury, feeling more confident in the second innings started to hit the ball further and the deep fielders had to work harder to retrieve their big hits.  Super fielding by Yarlet kept their score at 5 for this innings with a total of just 8.

Yarlet only needed one rounder to win this match as they went in for their second bat.  They didn't become over confident however and worked hard up to the very last ball.  Huge, powerful hits from the girls made a total of eight rounders for the second innings and a final score of Yarlet 15½, Shrewsbury High School 8.

Keep up the good work girls!

YARLET V TERRA NOVA U10S - WON 10½ - 9

Yesterday's game was a closer match than last week's HUGE victory over Shrewsbury High School.

Cool and calm bowling from Antonia started the match well.  Yarlet fielded with real finesse with Kasey stumping out two girls on second within the first few balls thanks to help from Kathy in deep field.  Tyler worked tirelessly as back stop and TN struggled to score.

Yarlet were a little shaky batting to start with, not risking runs to second to make half rounders.  The TN backstop confused us all with her unusual way of dealing with backwards hits.  A couple of nice long strikes from Libby and sneaky side-ways from Helena and Amelia balls gave Yarlet a score of 5 to TN's 3½ at the end of the first half.

A much more confident TN stepped up to bat after the half time break and Yarlet's deep fielders really had to work for the ball.  Lovely long throws from Beth, Emily and Kathy stopped rounders being scored and stumping on second by Hetta ensured we stopped half rounders.  Fionnuala and Tyler both made dramatic catches, skidding on the wet grass to leave TN with just three players left.

Yarlet needed just three rounders to win the game.  Emma struck the ball beautifully to the side, but was very unlucky that the girl on first post dived for the ball and just managed to stump her out.  It was Lolly who scored the crucial half rounder to win the game, jogging calmly the whole way round to score whilst the TN fielders struggled to field the ball accurately!  Great risky final runs by the last batters made the score Yarlet 10½, Terra Nova 9.

Great work girls!

YARLET V TERRA NOVA UNDER 13s MATCH -  WON 21½ - 5

A very enjoyable match, despite the drizzle!  The Yarlet U13s may have had only 8 players, but there was no doubt that we were the stronger batters and fielders.

In the first innings, Jamie, Hattie, Sophie, Abi and India all scored whole rounders.  Hattie and Abi an impressive 3 rounders each, with 2 down the slope.

Our fielding was impressive, too.  Cool accurate bowling from Molly, clever back-stopping with Harriet covering bases three and four and India, alert on one, stumping out four players in the second innings.   Leona caught all of Harriet’s accurate long throws to second base, preventing any score.  Jamie fielded the long balls well, covering second base, too.  And Maria was always ready to stop a hard bouncing ball on the ground.

Our first innings score of 14 ½ was too hard to beat, Terra Nova managing only five rounders after two innings.  Yarlet were clearly and resoundingly superior in all skill areas and really enjoyed their risk-taking runs, scoring half and full rounders galore.

A superbly confident first match for the U13 squad.  Well played the whole team.

Colours awarded to Harriet Brandon. Player of the match and top scorer.
