What is 'Flexi-Boarding'?

Flexi-boarding offers pupils the opportunity to get a “taster” of boarding without having to make a permanent weekly or termly boarding commitment.

Who can Flexi-Board?

Pupils who are in Year 3 and upwards can flexi-board.

When does Flexi-Boarding operate and how do we book?

Flexi-boarding operates on Thursday and Friday evenings.  Parents may select each Thursday or Friday evening for a term (or both).  Please contact the school to reserve a place.

Alternatively, if occasional boarding requirements arise during the term, please telephone the House Mother accordingly, although availability cannot be guaranteed.

Who looks after the flexi-boarders?

A House Mother is on duty throughout the night in case a child should become unwell or distressed. Before bedtime, the girl gap students help the House Mother supervise and entertain the girls. The male member of staff on duty supervises and helps to entertain the boys. Mr & Mrs Raybould also live in the school and are available if needed.

girls_dormWhere do they stay?

Pupils sleep over in dormitories. The girls’ dormitories are located close to Mr & Mrs Raybould’s flat in the Main Hall and the boys’ dormitories are on the second floor.

Pupils are segregated according to their age, with an average of 6 in each dormitory.

In addition to the dormitories, pupils have access to common rooms which provide a home-from-home environment for them to enjoy activities, games and each other’s company.  Activities include karaoke evenings, discos, cops and robbers, halloween and Christmas parties, all of which add to the pupils’ boarding experience.

What are the benefits?

Flexi-boarding helps children to:

  • become more mature and self-confident;
  • become closer to their friends, learn first-hand the importance of team-work and ‘give and take’;
  • become more self-reliant and self-sufficient in a safe and secure environment.

common_roomWhat do we need to bring?

Flexi-boarders need to bring …
1 pair of socks (per night)
1 pair of pants (per night)
1 shirt (per night)
1 pair of pyjamas/nightie
1 dressing gown
1 pair of slippers (suitable for fire drills)
1 coloured bath towel
1 toothpaste and brush
1 flannel
1 brush and comb
1 teddy!

What are the costs?

For the 2009/10 academic year, flexi-boarding costs are:

Single one-off night: £25
Thurs & Fri (both nights) 1 child £40
Siblings (2 children) per night: £40

A “season ticket” booked in advance for each Thursday or Friday evening (or both) is calculated on a termly basis at reduced rates. This allows parents to pre-book every Thursday or Friday, or both nights throughout the whole term. Please speak to the Finance Manager, Nigel Stringer, for details of costs.

All flexi-boarding costs are included on the end-of-term invoice.
